In the 1600s and beyond, Martha’s Vineyard was a community where Deaf and hearing people signed together. Interviews show that people even had a hard time remembering who was Deaf and who was hearing. It was a place where, truly, Deaf and hearing could communicate. It was a place where we all could build relationships and be neighbors together.
Today, we want an experience like Martha’s Vineyard again. At ASLVibe, a nonprofit, we create these experiences as a part of our vision: "Martha’s Vineyards . . . anywhere, anytime."
ASLVibe inspires and invests in ASL learners through immersive, educational, and social experiences available for signers at beginning learner to veteran interpreter levels. ASLVibe simultaneously invests in Deaf communities through talent development, identity discovery, and long-term cross-cultural relationship development with hearing people at the organization’s experiences. These experiences are Martha’s Vineyards: portable, immersive events where Deaf and hearing alike may interact as peers and as they freely choose.
